NOT SO SHARP
SHARP
He has interviewed a wide range
of celebrities, politicians, sports persons as well
as international guests and dignitaries, including
Nelson Mandela.
Prestigious blue chip companies like BMW, Seimens
and Pick & Pay seek him out as a function speaker,
he has a law degree and teaches economics and business
economics.
In my book he epitomized the New
South African male.
Now he has gone and fokked it all up.

KILL THE BULL
OR KILL THE CULTURE
Thokozani Ncikazi is really upset
that the organisation against cruelty to animals
has taken Zulu king Gooswill Swelithini to court
for the practice of Ukweshawama.
Now called Ukhweshwama is the Zulu
traditional thanksgiving and is held before the
harvesting of the crops.
The ceremony involves a group of men wrestling a
bull to death, and it is a culture that has been
practiced for centuries.
I want exactly what Ncikazi is so
afraid of.

WE
WILL, WE WILL, HOUSE YOU
I need some serious help in understanding this
one.
Is there anyone out there who can explain it to
me?
Tokyo Sexwale’s Department of Human Settlement
spent R60m on advertising during the 2008/2009 financial
year, despite its budget of R20m.
It’s not the fact that they overspent their
budget by 200% that I don’t understand.
Overspending has become the norm with our government
departments.
What I fail to understand is what they are advertising.

GO LARGE IF SIZE
MATTERS
3rdDegree recently did a story on
a young South African who had been born with both
male and female genitals.
Doctors promptly surgically removed his penis, but
when this child grew up it became obvious that he
was boy.
Doctors had removed the wrong genitalia soon after
birth, and without waiting to see how the child
would develop.
He has the urge of a man, but does
not have the tool to satisfy that urge.
What can be more frustrating than that?

REHABILITION
FOR PRISONERS MADE EASY
When found guilty of a crime, criminals
are sent to prison.
Serving time in prison is a form of punishment for
creating the crime.
Lately, humanitarian movements have
been calling for the rehabilitation of prisoners
as opposed to simple incarceration or punishment.
They contend that in this way prisoners would be
able to be reintegrated into society as productive
members of the community.

UNBELIEVABLE
FACTS
Yesterday, completely bored with
the list of disasters that is The News, I searched
the web for something to laugh about.
Today I felt a need to be amazed.
The following is a list of some strange, some amazing,
some interesting, some quirky and some absolutely
unbelievable facts.
When I say unbelievable, I mean
I don’t believe some of these facts.

FUNNY CLASSIFIED
ADS
Newspaper ads are fast making way
for online ads on sites such as gumtree, who offer
the service for free.
But, be it printed or online, classified
are still a good source of finding the best medicine.
Here is a list of classics that
will, at the very least, bring a smile to your face
as you pretend to be busy while waiting impatiently
for Friday.

SWIMMING WITH
SHARKS
I know I shouldn’t, but I
am feeling increasingly sorry for Jackie Selebi.
It was so obviously swimming with sharks, and now
he is bleeding.
The damning evidence that is being
presented against Selebi, proves yet another cliché.
There is no honour amongst thieves.
This is the stuff movies are made
from.

UBUNTU FOR BEGINNERS
On his release from prison, Nelson
Mandela surprised the world by advocating peace
and reconciliation, and the world lauded him.
I lauded him.
I was reminded that we were all
human, irrespective of cultural and ethnic diversity.
Although those that oppressed me were wrong, I was
big enough to forgive them.
As an African, compassion and humanity
was inherent in me.
Ubuntu was part of my nature.

THE BEE DOCTOR
OF GAZA CITY
Apitherapy - the medical use of
bee venom - is anecdotal and has not been proved
to the satisfaction of scientists.
The natural remedy, which contains
large amounts of the anti-inflammatory agent melittin,
has been used in many parts of the world to treat
multiple sclerosis and arthritis.
But for many patients living in the Gaza Strip it
is the only treatment available.

FAT CATS IN TRAINING
According to South African labour
law, a worker can only work a maximum of 10 hours
overtime per week.
That’s 40 hour per month, or 43.33 hours per
month if you really want to get technical.
In order to earn R47 988.95 in overtime
for the month, one would then need to earn R1107.52
per hour.
So who earns that kind of money?

WHAT CAN LOCALS
EXPECT DURING THE WORLD CUP
In today’s dog eat dog world,
everyone is in it for what they can get out of it.
No one is interested in any bigger picture.
It is simply ‘what’s in it for me?’
right now.
At the World Travel Market in London
recently, overseas-based people in the travel industry
expressed serious concern that local hospitality
businesses are planning to overcharge tourists during
next years Soccer World Cup.
What do they expect, if the main players in the
World Cup are leading by example?

IS IT A BIRD?
IS IT A PLANE? IT’S TECHNO MOM!
I may as well let the cat out of
the bag.
A couple of months ago, I entered into a JV for
a soon to launched inter-active online portal catering
to today’s techno-savvy, hip and trendy mommies!
I have been frantically busy researching
and writing for the project, and my mind has been
filled with uteruses, stretched round ligaments
and engorged breasts.
But there is also a world of technology
out there that will blow you away.

HOW WELL DO YOU
KNOW YOUR COUNTRY
It’s Saturday afternoon and
I have nothing better to do than search for articles
worthy of comment on this site.
The details are still vague, but
a woman who police suspect is a member of the National
Intelligence Agency (NIA), was robbed of R250 000.00
outside the South African Revenue Service office
at Gateway on Friday afternoon.
I must warn you, the following is
pure private investigative speculation on my part.

IOL'S CLASSIC
FREUDIAN SLIP
The headline caught my eye, as usual.
What’s The Secret to Seduction,
it read.
So, being a red-blooded male, I promptly clicked
on the link to read the article by Fiona Macrae
posted on BabyNet yesterday.
The article has absolutely nothing
to do with seduction.
If anything, it is a list of some or other 'expert'
opinion of the laws of attraction.
The last two paragraphs speak volumes
for the article's credibility.

GRILLING THE
PERFECT STEAK
Now that you
have chosen that steak, let’s get down
to the art of cooking it.
It’s really not rocket science.
The steak should be at room temperature.
If you had in in the fridge let it stand for a while.
If it was – dog forbid – frozen, let
it defrost at room temperature.
We are going to start this steak
in a heavy based pan, and unless you prefer it rare,
we will finish the cooking in the oven or on the
grill.

THE BLACK CAPITALIST
MINORITY
If memory serves me correctly, transferring
the wealth of the country to the people as a whole,
as opposed to a selective minority, was one of the
pillars of the struggle for freedom.
This is encapsulated in the Freedom
Charter as the National Democratic Revolution.
No wonder then that the natives
are getting understandably restless.

SOON
I WILL BE ABLE TO READ YOUR MIND
I am seldom surprised by technology.
I know for a fact that in fifty years time, life
as we know it now will be perceived as primitive.
But I still marvel at the
advances being made daily.
Like wouldn’t it be cool to
know what people are thinking?
Well, it looks like that’s going to be possible
sooner than you thought it would.

THE
CORRUPTION CARTEL
Three politicians in top positions
seem to have corruption down to a fine art.
These three have been looking out
for each other for years, and together they have
managed to get into positions of such power, that
even those who tried to expose their corrupt activities,
now have to report to them.
What’s more, they are not
prepared to mess with a winning formula.
