A company
in Barcelona, for example, has launched an iPhone application
that will figure out the reason why your baby is crying
in ten seconds.
The Cry Translator "involves
a revolutionary technology that quickly identifies an
infant's cry, based on one of five emotional or physiological
states.
These five ‘cries’
are apparently universal to babies, regardless of culture
or language.
All
you need do is place your iPhone about 20cm from
the crying baby and touch the start button. |
|
The cries are analysed and identified within a 10-second
window, and.once the cry has been identified, tips to
calm the infant are provided.
A clinical trial with the
original device, at a hospital in Spain, tested 104
children. When the suggestions to calm the child were
followed, 96 percent of the babies stopped crying.
Available in Spain, Britain and the
US, the application is priced at $9.99 (R70) and will
soon be available word-wide.
Demand has been phenomenal since it
was featured on American television this week, said
a company spokesperson, and one parent on the company's
website marvelled at how accurately a soiled nappy was
detected.
Do mommies today really need technology
to tell them baby’s nappy is soiled?
