THE
CORRUPTION CARTEL
Let’s see if I can get this
right.
Way back in 1995, S’bu Ndebele was the Kwazulu-Natal
Transport MEC when he appointed George Mahlalela
as his private secretary.

Around the same time, Kwazi Mbanjwa
was KwaZulu-Natal’s head of transport.

In 2006, Lucky Montana –
then an acting director-general at the national department
- advised Mbanjwa to act against Mahlalela for a number
of irregularities concerning bus contracts that had been
issued.
These contracts had a value of R1.2-billion.
But, Mbanjwa chose not to lay criminal
charges against Mahlalela and the latter left the department
quietly, soon after the allegation.
Today, S’bu Ndebele is the National
Transport Minister, Kwazi Mbanjwa is his personal advisor,
and George Mahlalela has just been appointed his acting
director-general.
Lucky Montana, in the meantime, is now
the chief executive of Metrorail, and as such has to report
to Mahlalela, the man he had urged Mbanjwa to act against
in 2006.
Mahlalela is also now the boss of senior
officials who wanted him punished in view of the forensic
audit that exposed his corruption in 2006.
Meanwhile, capo del tuti capi - Ndebele
- states that he only became aware of the allegations
this week.
Defiantly, he goes on to say that the ‘leaking’
of the findings of the 2006 audit could be ‘political
blackmail.’
What we have here is a Corruption Cartel.
Nothing less.
