Two weeks later, while on Honeymoon
in South Africa, the newlyweds are hijacked in a notorious
part of Gugulethu township in Cape Town.
This area is so dangerous that not even
residents venture there late at night, but Shrien explains
that Anni, who was raised in Sweden, said that the Cape
Grace Hotel, in the V&A Waterfront, is too much like
Sweden, and she wanted to experience ‘The Real Africa.’
Out of nowhere two armed men approach the
stationary shuttle and force the driver out of the vehicle.
They get into the vehicle and drive around for half-an-hour,
before forcing the unharmed Shrien out the back window of
the vehicle in Harare, Khayelitsha.
The
following day, in broad daylight, police discover
the abandoned vehicle. On the back seat, in full view
of passersby, is Anni’s body. She has been shot
at least three times in the chest. |

The story hits the headlines across the
globe, and the world is aghast at the senseless murder.
Thousands of comments and messages of condolences are plastered
all over the Interweb and cynics have a field day with the
folly of visiting the dangerous, Third World atrocity that
is South Africa.
48-hours later, police arrest a 26-year-old
man in connection with the crime.
Then they discover that the taxi shuttle was fraudulently
registered, and the owner of the shuttle service cannot
be traced.
A heart-broken Shrien flies back to Britain
two-days later.
The next day British newspapers report that
Shrien’s company is over R70-million in debt.
As the story unfolds, two more men, apparently
with links to a well-known five-star hotel in Cape
Town, is arrested, and Shrien is expected back in South
Africa, under British police escort, within a matter of
days.
There are rumours of ‘a planned hit’ and it
is understood that the driver of the taxi shuttle has turned
state witness.
Weekend papers state that ‘an
explosive revelation’ would be made soon.

Now, if only it
turns out that Anni is simply a character in a movie,
and that she is not really dead, this would get my
vote for movie of the year. |
