But of all the wild dreams I’ve heard,
nothing comes close to what this couple did when they won
$11.2m in November last year.
77-year-old Violet Large is a cancer survivor
who lives with her retired husband, 75-year-old Allen in
Canada’s Nova Scotia province.
Allen is retired after working as a steel
welder for thirty years, a Violet worked for a cosmetics
company.
The couple live in a small 147-year-old house and drive
a thirteen-year-old car and a five-year-old truck.
|
Four
months after their windfall, Allen decided that winning
millions is just ‘ a big headache’ and
the couple decided to give away 98% of their winnings. |
They helped out some family members and
donated the rest to churches, animal charities, hospitals
and other groups.
"We haven't spent even one penny on
ourselves. We're not travellers and we're not high-class
people," said Mrs Large.
‘We haven't bought one thing. That's
because there is nothing that we need. That money that we
won was nothing — we have each other, we are comfortable
and we are happy. Money can’t buy that’ added
Mr Large.
That’s Large.
What baffles me though is why they bothered
to play the lotto in the first place.
