The North Gauteng High Court handed down
judgment that prevents internet operators to offer online
gambling and South Africans to partake in online gambling.
Those entities that advertise or facilitate
the advertisement of online gambling — including radio
and television stations, print media and outdoor advertising
agencies — will also face the law.
Persons who are prosecuted and found guilty
of breach or contravention of the gambling legislation could
receive a fine of R10-million or 10 years in jail, or both.
Imagine… ‘prevents South Africans
to partake in online gambling.’
Its not that they are saying we can’t
gamble.
They are simply telling us where and at what establishments
we are allowed to gamble.
Much like telling us ‘You can buy
stuff in the local stores but not online from stores that
are not based in South Africa, where – God forbid
- you could perhaps get a better deal.

I can’t
help but suspect that the licensed casino mafia in
South Africa played a hand in this. |
Online casinos, and there are many of them,
mostly offer jackpots in Dollars Euros and Pounds and are
a direct threat to the South African casino monopoly.
I am sure that local operators have been losing top dollar
to the online casino industry.
Did somebody perhaps offer someone an incentive
to hand down the judgment?
