THANK YOU URUGUAY

In my article Ke Nako Wakka Wakka – Nothing to do with Soccer, I hoped to remind South Africans of the true opportunity, and rewards, that hosting the World Cup held.

Yes it is a soccer tournament, and we are (mostly) a patriotic and proud nation.
It is natural that Bafana Bafana’s 13 match unbeaten lead up to the World Cup, and the media’s exploitation of that achievement stirred up some hope of at least a degree of success in the tournament.

The national team’s defeat at the hands of Uruguay on Wednesday soundly burst that bubble, but lets be realistic now and think with our heads rather than our hearts.

As a soccer team, South Africa was always a no-hoper against the best in the world. In fact they were the only team who did not qualify the hard way for their place in the tournament.

Let us rather look at the true opportunity presented by this tournament.
The opportunity to show the world, and ourselves, that we are indeed a nation with the potential to lead the world to victory in the United and Equal Nations World Cup.

And trust me, in that tournament we have not yet lost a single match.

So, South Africa, let us lick the very minor wounds inflicted by Uruguay and not lose sight of the goal posts.

Bafana Bafana may be all but out of the Soccer World Cup, but South Africa as a nation is still very much the favourite to win the tournament.

Even though the sound of a vuvuzela irritates the hell out of me, I urge you to blow them even louder as we continue on the road to a colossal victory.

Ke Nako.
Wakka Wakka.

As for soccer….thank you for your patriotism, but you are now free to support your team of choice.

Bet with your head and not your heart.
