In my book, if you were born
in 1984 you would be 27 years old in 2011.
But that is not the point.
The point is….exactly how does a 27/28-year-old businessman-in-his-own-right
get to be a billionaire?
If he finished matric and went on to study
for a degree in something, he would have graduated a mere
two years ago.
But that could not have been the case, because, according
to Parekh Gupta, Duduzane joined the Gupta family business
in 2001.
If my math is up to scratch, our Dudu was just 17 years
old at the time.
Duduzane and Gugu Mtshali, Deputy President
Kgalema Motlanthe’s romantic partner, are set to benefit
from shares worth about R1 billion in the R9 billion ArceloMittal
empowerment deal.
Zuma, who leads Mabengela Investments, will
also benefit from various ventures with Ayigobi Consortium
– a company owned by Zuma family friend Sandile Zungu
The 28-year-old millionaire - or is it 27-year-old
billionaire - is a director in numerous businesses owned
by the Gupta brothers that have won multibillion-rand deals
in recent months.
He is a director and shareholder, along with Rajesh Gupta,
in a R500 billion deal with China Railway Construction Corporation.
The deal involves a government railway infrastructure project
featuring a high-speed train between Johannesburg, Durban,
Cape Town and Musina.
Duduzane would have us believe that hi father
has nothing to do with hi success.
In a recent interview on Talk Radio 702 Duduzane vehemently
denied using his father’s connections to get business
deals with the Gupta family.
He also denies all allegations of cronyism and blames the
media for being politically biased against his father.
‘If you think we have done something
wrong, then please come forward; if we have done something
wrong, then drag us by our shirt collars before a court
of law. If not, then leave us the hell alone and let us
do our business’ he said on-air.
But we know what happens in a court of law
if your surname is Zuma.
Any other suggestions Duduzane?
The president’s son lives a lavish
lifestyle, owning numerous sports cars and a mansion in
Saxonwold.
