IS THIS REALLY ART

During the Viking Age 790-1066 the Scandinavian looters turned their long boats upside down to create temporary homes when wintering down.
They built low stone walls in the shape of the boats hull and then secured the upside down boat on the walls to create a waterproof roof.

By building a chapel with an upside down pool for a roof, French artists Julien Berthier and Stephane Thidet claims to make a modern statement on an old Norse Viking tradition.
But is it art?

Berthier especially has an interesting take on art.

For example, who on earth would want to preserve the final moments of a sinking ship. That moment just before the entire thing sinks under water.
Why Julien Berthier of course.

To create his sculpture, he cut a 6.5m yacht in half and fitted it with a new keel and motor so it remains in the sinking position while being fully functional. He describes it as "the permanent and mobile image of a wrecked ship.’

Berthier has taken the boat (or should I say half-a-boat) across the English Channel to London and has toured it around Europe, getting plenty of attention and offers of assistance from unwitting good Samaritans.

But is it art?

I’m almost too disgusted to post this on my site.

Well, there is no reasonable point, except maybe to further nurture and spread a healthy disgust for how sick human beings are capable of being.

RECIPE FOR SEAFOOD PAELLA: Before we rush into the kitchen to cook, let’s clear up the pronunciation thing.
It is pronounced pah-el-ya, but the first L is pronounced in a rather complicated way where the tongue does not actually touch the pallet. So it sounds closer to pah-eh-ya.
Got it?
Let’s cook!

CANDICE BOUCHER IN PLAYBOY: South African model Candice Boucher, the new ‘face’ of Guess Jeans, has created quite stir when she was featured on the cover of Playboy this month with an ‘Undressed in Africa’ nude pictorial inside.
Playboy magazine no doubt appreciates the increased sales.

CONFUSE THEIR TONGUES AND RULE: I often bitch about the fact that we have eleven official languages in SA, claiming that it a sure-fire way to ensure that we never understand each other and a powerful deterrent to racial harmony and a united nation.
I had no idea that Nelson Mandela and the ANC were simply following a divine strategy to remain in power well into the future.
