THE CONTROVERSIAL AD:DYNAMO SEMINAR

There is a reason why I have not updated the site since Wednesday.

On Wednesday 17 February, I attended a blogging seminar hosted by Ad:Dynamo at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
I am sure that those of you who attended the seminar will agree with me that it was enough to leave any self-respecting blogger despondent.

The seminar was supposed to be on monetizing your blog, but the speaker dsignated to talk on this subject went to great lengths to convince bloggers that earning decent money from your blog is virtually impossible.

The blogs that do make a lot of money were almost grudgingly cited as the exception to the rule.

It has taken me four days to recover from this onslaught. Four days to realise that the speaker is not qualified to talk on monetising your blog, because he is unable to make money from his blogs.

And this brings me to controversy.
During the seminar, it was repeatedly affirmed that controversial content attracts the most readers.

Interestingly, Benford’s law of controversy loosely states ‘the fewer facts are known, the more controversy there is, and the more is known the less controversy there is.'

I believe that the speaker at the Ad Dynamo seminar knew very little about monetising your blog, and to this effect, I turn against him.

From the Latin contra - "against" - and vertere - to turn.

My advice to the Ad Dynamo people:
Next time, get the bloggers who make money to talk about monetising your blog.
I imagine that would be less controversial and definitely more encouraging.
