Obviously I was curious when I read that ‘The World’s first 3D erotic film’ outsold the blockbuster Avatar on its opening day in Hong Kong.

And, I am not the only one who was curious.
30 000 viewers stood in long queues for the first screenings of Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstacy.

So of course I went a-googlin’.

The movie stars Japanese adult actresses Yukiko Suo and Saori Hara.
All the more reason to continue a-googlin’.

Ok.
The script is an adaptation of the classical novel The Carnal Prayer Mat, depicting the sexual exploits of a young Ming Dynasty scholar named Wei Yangsheng.
Wei decides that life is short and goes on a mission to attain sexual Zen.

Eagerly I watched the trailer on Youtube.
WTF?

Looming Samurai warriors, seemingly remote-controlled swords and daggers hurtling through the air following moving targets, a giant key unlocking a giant door and a couple of kimono clad girls smiling and bowing demurely. Oh. And one of them, half-naked, gets whipped.

I am sure that in the actual movie there has to be more soft porn scenes, but judging from the trailer this is a fokken glorified karate movie.

Wei, you see, in his quest to experience the ultimate passion, discovers that sincere love is more satisfying than wanton promiscuity, and true love does not need sex.

But the producers can’t advertise that.
Ticket sales would plummet.
