The hippo is a very aggressive
animal and male hippos actively defend their territories
that run along the banks of rivers and lakes.
Females also get extremely aggressive if they sense anything
coming in between their babies, who stay in the water while
she feeds on the shore.
Hippos can run at speeds of over 40kph hour and they have
enormous jaws which host up to 20 huge canines and close
like a sledgehammer.
But when it comes to killing
human beings, they are not the deadliest of the big animals.
The most deadly of all African species is
actually a tiny one.
The mosquito is responsible for over 1million human deaths
every year in Africa.
But we were talking about the large animals.
The species responsible for more human deaths
than hippos, big cats and elephant combined is by far the
deadliest of them all.
That
species is none other than man. |
