That’s right, a two-year contract
that pays you R1-million per month, and all you have to
do is stick to your promise of not working.
For the opposition that is.
You are still free to work for anyone else and earn extra
money if you so choose.

This
is the position that retired Vodacom CEO Allan Knott-Craig
is in. |
Knott-Craig retired in 2008, and when,
in March 2009, Vodacom found out that Telkom was planning
to launch its own cellular network, they signed a two-year
contract with the former CEO to keep him from working
for the opposition.
According to newspaper reports, Vodacom
chairman Peter Moyo admits they are paying the retired
CEO the retainer as part of a restraint of trade and consultancy
fee, and the payments have not been disclosed to the company's
shareholders, which include the South African government,
Vodaphone and BEE scheme Yebo Yethu.
