WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS STORY?

The expression ‘read between the lines’ derives from a simple 19th century form of cryptography, in which secreting it between lines of text conveyed a hidden meaning.
It soon became used to refer to the deciphering of any coded or unclear form of communication.

In South Africa, we no longer have to read between the lines to decipher the hidden messages in newspaper articles.
All we have to do is read the actual lines.
Can you spot what’s wrong with the following story published on a popular news sight yesterday?

Police shot dead an armed robber and wounded two others during a shootout in Wildevy Street, Dalpark on Monday evening.
Police also confiscated an AK-47 rifle, a shotgun and two handguns, said Gauteng police spokesperson Director Govindsamy Mariemuthoo.

Members of the public informed the SAPS 10111 Call Centre around 7pm that they had witnessed several men robbing the Spar in Kasseldale on the East Rand.
They told police that they were following the Quantum vehicle with all the robbers in it.

They continuously briefed the police about the Quantum's whereabouts until members of the Germiston Flying Squad caught up with it in Wildevy Street.

The cornered robbers fired at the police who fired back in self-defence, said Mariemuthoo.
One gunman was shot dead, and two were shot and wounded. The two wounded and three others were arrested.
Some of the money stolen during the robbery at the Spar was recovered.

The arrested suspects would appear in court in due course. Police investigations were continuing.
"The SAPS thanks the members of the public for their participation and assistance during the whole unfolding drama and subsequent chase," said Mariemuthoo.
