PARIS HILTON AND CASTER SEMENYA

I pride myself on being open-minded, and often cite my willingness to admit that I was wrong, if I am proven wrong.

I now find myself in a situation where two separate incidents are exactly the same, but I have differing sentiments about them.
The problem is that I find it difficult to decide which is right and which is wrong.

When I wrote about Lolly Jackson’s billboards in Rivonia advertising Teazers, and it’s inference to Caster Semenya, I was pretty pissed off, labelling it ‘in bad taste.’

Now, I find myself amused at the use of Paris Hilton’s image on available billboards by a New Zealand firm that hires out these billboards.
The billboards feature a photo of Paris Hilton, with the word VACANT under her face.

New Zealand’s Media5 claims that they were ‘just having a bit of fun’ by posting her face on the billboards.
It was designed to draw attention to the available billboards, and Ms Hilton has a proven ability to laugh at herself.

But. La Paree is not amused and is threatening legal action, as the company did not have permission to use her image.

If I expect Paris Hilton to be ok with that and laugh it off, surely I should expect the same from Caster Semenya?

Then again, If I felt compassion for poor Semenya because of Teazers’ billboard, surely rich Paris deserves the same?

I am leaning towards the latter.
