A draw, a loss and a win was just enough
to earn Bafana Bafana a place in the record books as the
first host city in the 80-year history of the Soccer World
Cup to be eliminated in the opening round.
I knew, as we all did, that they stood no
chance of winning the world cup, but we were all hopeful
that they would at least make it through to the next round.
That was not to be. And let's face it. They tried. They
tried really hard.
Now it's our turn to qualify, so let's concentrate
on the opportunities and benefits of this major event.
