400-MILLION EYES FOCUSED ON CAPE TOWN Driving home from the CBD to Koeberg Rd during peak hour has become a nightmare with the final draw for the Fifa Soccer World Cup taking place at the CTICC at 19h00 on Friday evening. Just to get from Rose Street to the N1 took about an hour last night. About 2000 foreign delegates are expected to attend the event, and if the traffic is anything to go by, I dread the actual world cup where 450 000 fans are expected.

That said, South Africa’s favourite Academy Award winner is set to add some glamour to the proceedings on Friday.
Charlize Theron is a guest presenter at the draw and she will share the limelight with soccer greats like Eusebio, Roger Milla, David Beckham, Franz Beckenbauer and Michel Platini.

 

Also amongst the VVIP’s will be Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and Haille Gebreselassie,.

President Jacob Zuma and Fifa President Joseph S. Blatter will welcome the audience at the beginning of the 90-minute live show.

Nelson Mandela, one of the architects of the first African World Cup, will address the audience by video message.

The Final Draw will be beamed live to more than 200 million people in more than 200 territories.

I think the last time that so many eyes were fixed on South Africa was when Madiba was released from prison?
