BHEKI CELE - THE BOOK AND THE COVER

It’s not always easy to not judge a book by its cover.
I mean, who can blame me for thinking ‘Oh….My…..God’ when I first saw a photo of newly appointed Police Commissioner Bheki Cele, in one of his Mr Bojangles outfits?

‘OMG’ I declared silently. ‘They are appointing a clown as the top cop in the country.’

In retrospect, the cover does not seem to reflect the content, and I am beginning to really enjoy this book.

The more I discovered about the book’s stance on fighting crime, the more I warmed to the storyline.

On Monday evening I saw him on the news, and what he said made up my mind for me.

On human rights for criminals he said:
They break into our houses at night while we are sleeping. They wake up the husband and wife. Then they rape the wife in front of the husband, forcing him to watch. If the husband tries to protect his wife, they kill him.
These criminals are not humans.
They are animals.
They are not worthy of human rights
.’

I love this book.
