THE WORLD’S BIGGEST
RODENT.
A super-sized, or giant rat, has been
discovered in Madagascar.
This mother, a brown rat or ‘rattus norvigecus,
weighs in at 7.7kg. This is about the size of a six-month-old
baby.
The pic below is a rat of about the same size that was
found in China.
The biggest specimen of this species of
rat found to date was 1.5kg, according to the doctor responsible
for pest control in Madagascar's health department.
Some have speculated that the rat might have escaped from
a laboratory where it was fed an unusual diet that could
explain its size.
This of course raised my curiosity.
I wondered if this was the biggest rat ever found.
Lo and Behold.
South America’s Capybara is not officially a rat,
but it is indeed a rodent.
To me that’s a rat!
This ratrodent regularly weighs in at over
90kg and attains upwards of a metre in size from nose to
base of tail.
Base of tail, because thy do not have an actual tail.
