CHARRA BITES THE DUST
When I first met Rashaad ‘Charra’
Abrahams years ago, he was selling stolen eight-track
car tapes in the Galaxy’s parking lot.
But, he dreamt of finding fame and fortune as a Dj, and
often he would act as a lackey for the DJs at Galaxy,
passing them their records.
Anything to get into the DJ box.
Years later, he opened his own club –
Club Images in Lansdowne.
Any questions regarding where the money
came from was soon answered when he was arrested on 122
charges of housebreaking.
The value of the goods stolen was R100-million.
His arrest and problems with Pagad forced
the closure of Images.
While he was still in prison, a police
informant in the trial was killed, and it was alleged
that Abrahams had orchestrated the crime from within Polsmoor.
The informant had been killed with a bolt-cutter, packed
in a freezer, placed on a municipal dump in Strandontein,
and set alight.
.
Rumours of Chinese Triads, diamond, drug and perlemoen
smuggling were rife.
Authorities failed to convict him on the housebreaking
charge.
They failed to convict him on the murder charge.
They failed to convict him on any other charges.
Charra pursued two dreams simultaneously.
He made millions from his illegal activities – which
has never been proved – and then opened his dream
club, @mospheer, from the proceeds.
Charra was happiest wowing the crowds
as DJ Rush at @mospheer.
In fact, he was the best DJ the club ever had.
On Monday night, what goes around came
around and Rashaad ‘Charra’ Abrahams was shot
dead at a house in Tamboerskloof. The news report states
that he was caught breaking in to a house, and a security
guard shot him.
You may find it strange that a man worth
millions is breaking into houses, but there is more to
it than that.
Check back tomorrow and I will share some juicy bits that
is common knowledge on the street.
You see, like the Kapdis, Petersens, Dirks and Staggies,
Charra was our neighbour.
