MO SHAIK: NEW INTELLIGENCE
CHIEF?
Since his election, Jacob Zuma has,
so far and to a large degree, not lived up to his
critics’ predictions of gloom, doom and disaster.
In fact, like a true politician,
he has been making the right noises.
He can even be accused of saying what his audience
wanted to hear, irrespective of who the audience
was.
What he has been guilty of, is somewhat
discreetly – read ‘without too much
noise – appointing his cadres to key positions
of power.
Much like Mbeki did. |

Where there is smoke, there is usually
fire, and if the latest allegations are true, the president
could be showing the first clear signs of an arrogant
abuse of power.
City Press reported
over the weekend that Mo Shaik - brother of the
convicted former financial adviser to President
Jacob Zuma, Schabir Shaik - would be appointed as
the new intelligence chief. |
|
Mo Shaik has emphatically denied the rumor,
and the National Intelligence Agency has refused to confirm
or deny the allegation.
NIA spokesperson, Lorna Daniels, said the announcement
would be made by the presidency once all the necessary
procedures had been followed.
Meanwhile, the contract of the NIA's current
director general, Manala Manzini, expired on Monday and
he was apparently already informed that his term would
not be extended.
What next?
Schabir Shaik as Minister of Finance?
