WE ARE NOT READY
FOR ENLIGHTENMENT
I try my best to incorporate at
least a semblance of originality in my daily articles.
Even if it simply means giving my sometimes distorted
perspective on news articles.
Today, however, I have to refer
you to another website.
Under the heading The Race Debate, Max Du Preez
writes on racism in general.
The bulk of the article consists
of excerpts from a speech that Barack Obama made
18-months ago, and even Obama was not voicing an
entirely original concept, so I don’t feel
too bad about continuing the chain. |
|
Instead of filling me with hope however,
the article filled me with despair.
Black, coloured, white, Asian, whatever.
We are not ready for this kind of enlightenment.
Enlightenment, btw, is a movement started in the 18th
century that advocated the use of reason in the reappraisal
of accepted ideas and social institutions.
The legacy of past ignorance and downright
stupidity is far too ingrained on our collective psyche.
I understand fully why I have such strong
and negative feelings, bordering on a smouldering hatred,
towards the issues of culture and heritage.
Do you?

speech by clicking here.
